With so many construction projects happening around Disney World, we wouldn’t blame you if you’re rolling your eyes at another one.
Construction is the only way we’ll get new things in the parks, though, so we totally get it, but all the walls and closures do really start to drag you down when you start seeing them everywhere. Alas, it looks like a Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort spot could be undergoing construction soon, which could mean this long-forgotten spot could finally be coming back to life.
Tangaroa Terrace is a building separate from the Great Ceremonial Hall at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. For years, this spot has been closed to the public, but a new permit has just been filed that could put it back on the map for guests. In fact, it’s been forgotten for so long that when you pull up Tangaroa Terrace, you’ll only find the location at the Disneyland Hotel on the West Coast — don’t be fooled; that one is still operating just fine!
It’s had many roles over the years, such as a buffet, the Neverland Club (the resort’s kids’ club) back around 2014, and most recently has been used as a Cast Member break area. Now, Disney has just filed a new permit for the area that’s in effect until December 31st, 2027, which is a LONG time for a permit to be in use. Typically, we see them around a year long, so the fact that this one is a few months longer is quite the change.
The permit is for “General Conditions,” which doesn’t give us a lot of information to go off of. The contractor is Keenan Hopkins Schmidt and Stowell (KHS&S Contractors), and according to their website, they are leading specialty interior and exterior contractors that create spectacular interiors, exteriors, prefabricated building components, themed environments, rockwork, and specialty finishes for many large projects in Florida, Texas, and New Jersey.
This certainly sounds like the area could be getting a major upgrade, which we’re hoping means it’ll become an area open to guests once again. We have a feeling it would be VERY popular, especially if it brings back an option for kids!
