Disney World isn’t known for being a theme park filled with thrill rides, especially in EPCOT. The only thrill rides you’ll find here are Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Test Track, and the controversial Mission: SPACE.
On Facebook, we asked our readers, “EPCOT fans, tell us your biggest park-day disaster. We want to hear what went horribly wrong on your EPCOT trip and how you handled it.” One of the responses came because of this thrill attraction… any guesses on which one?
If you guessed Mission: SPACE, you’d be correct! Reader Claire wrote, “Going on Mission Space Orange. Rode it, couldn’t walk or see straight, somehow made it back to the resort, threw up, slept for 4 hours and then was fine lol”
If you’ve never been on Mission: SPACE, it’s INTENSE, especially the Orange Mission. There are two mission options to choose from on this attraction: Green Mission (around Earth) and Orange Mission (around Mars). Don’t get me wrong — the idea of this ride is awesome. And Disney worked with people at NASA to create it!
The Green Mission offers a less intense experience, made for a gentler and more family-friendly ride. It uses a motion simulator that offers light movement and doesn’t spin, so it’s less likely to cause motion sickness. Guests must be 40″ to ride. The Orange Mission is more intense, using a centrifuge that spins and tilts to simulate the speed and G-forces of a spacecraft launch and reentry. On the Disney World website, it states, “Guests who wish to experience the Orange Mission should be in good health and free of high blood pressure, heart, back or neck problems, motion sickness, or other conditions that could be aggravated by this adventure.” Guests must be 44″ to ride.
Getting sick on Mission: SPACE is not uncommon, even when you’re riding the less intense mission. Reader Megan responded to Claire, saying, “my husband made me ride it. I made it out and had to lay on the bench outside for about an hour. I was green. Thankfully did not throw up which was a miracle.”
So, if you’re okay with feeling a bit nauseous after this attraction, go for it. But you absolutely could not pay me to get on this attraction. I’d much rather enjoy my day eating around the world, shrinking down to the size of a rat, and riding through plants.

I truly believe they should rename the Orange option to “Vomitron 3000” so people know what it really is, and the Green one to any of the following…. The Claustro-Matic 3000:, The Panic Pod (when the panel moves in three inches of your face) or The Human Trash Compactor (also describing the feeling when it closes)
Absolutely though I would die after mission space! Of course it didn’t help that my gall bladder was already up in my throat from Guardians. Guardians is the best! I agree, can no longer pay me to ride mission.
I agree. Bring back Horizons!
Gee, what light weights….I’m 78 and I ride Orange while eating fried chicken and drinking a milkshake……
I survived Mission Space: Orange when it first opened, before they had a green mild version. Once and done.
What knocked me for a loop was Guardians of the Galaxy. Made the mistake of having lunch at Garden Grill, then spotted a very short line for Guardians and jumped in. Good thing I had a large shopping bag (empty–briefly) with me but I felt bad for the people in the car with me. The twisting track and turning, spinning cars–not again. I’ll be on Spaceship: Earth if you need me.
I love Mission Space: Green Mission lol. When my people insist on Orange, I go shopping, get an ice cream or coffee depending on the weather, or just sit quietly with my eyes closed! Fun for them, fun for me, and no one vomits.
No longer in operation, but Body Wars was also a vomit comet. One and done.
I first rode Mission: Space before there were two options. I dreamed of being an astronaut and, after hearing that the NASA guys said this was as close as you could get to the original, we made it our first stop in EPCOT. The ride was phenomenal and I actually cried with joy during it. Felt fine, got out, walked down to Mission Control and BAM! Full body sweat & shakes and I was sitting in the middle of the floor with no idea how I got down there! Wheeeee!!
