Disney dropped a TON of news at this year’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, and we got a closer look at a few things coming to the new Monsters, Inc.-themed land, Monstropolis, coming to Hollywood Studios!
From an opening timeline to attractions and shows to restaurants and shopping, there is a LOT of information, so let’s break it down!
Opening Timeline
Disney has confirmed that the land will open sometime in 2027, although an exact date has yet to be announced. However, Disney’s first-of-its-kind suspended roller coaster will NOT open with the land. An opening timeline for the Door Coaster has yet to be revealed.
Speaking of the new coaster, let’s dive into what we can expect when it does open! This coaster will take you through the Monsters, Inc. door Vault where you’ll swing like one of the doors in the movie! Guests will be lifted 40 feet in the air in just FOUR seconds and then launched into the vault — sounds fun!

The Theater Show
The land’s new theater show will be located in the old Muppet*Vision 3D building. The Glob Theater will be home to the “Welcome to Monstropolis” show, which will, you know… welcome guests to Monstropolis. The show will feature a brand-new song written by Randy Newman, which will be the first song he’s written for a Disney park.
Mike and Sulley will be the hosts of the show. The vice president of Walt Disney Imagineering, Chris Beatty, shared a first look, saying, “Sulley has been working on a small, homespun show, but Mike – ever the showman – has a few surprises up his sleeve that he thinks will bring down the house. Hopefully not literally.”
From the concept art, it looks like it may be a combination of a screen and an on-stage show, kind of similar to Muppet*Vision 3-D, but Disney has yet to confirm anything. It also looks like the balconies where you could find Waldorf and Statler on one side and Bean Bunny on the other side will be removed and replaced with screens.

Dining & Shopping
There will be two dining locations in the land — Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza and Harryhausen’s. Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza will be a quick-service location where guests can easily grab a slice of pizza. The restaurant is inspired by Ear Tech’s beloved six-legged mascot. Harryhausen’s is inspired by the sushi restaurant Mike and Celia go on a date to. The restaurant will have a “menu unlike anything else” and will feature a full Animatronic of the Chef!
Disney gave us a closer look into the restaurant and what we can expect from the Chef! In the Pardon Our Pixie Dust: D23 Edition episode by Walt Disney Imagineering, we got to see the actual Animatronic of the Sushi Chef, and he looks FANTASTIC! Walt Disney Imagineering is currently in the final stages of programming the animatronic, and they’re adding some classic gags like audio and visual media to bring him to life.
The Scareporium will be the shopping location in the land. Here, guests can grab a great souvenir to remember their visit to Monstropolis!
We’ll keep you updated with any more announcements that come about as this land progresses, so stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for more!
